The beach is of course a perennially helpful location in the service of this project. Being a liminal and transitional zone it bestows upon its temporary inhabitants a suite of permissions and liberties not granted elsewhere. Not least among these is the permission for ‘grown-ups’ to throw off the shackles of sensible, conformist behaviour and PLAY. J**skis and other antisocial menaces notwithstanding, Homo Ludens can be witnessed at its best and most content in this environment.
